Handling and care
In order for your timepiece to function as it did on the day of purchase, we recommend that you follow a few simple instructions. Following these steps will ensure that your ILMAR watch will last from one generation to another. More detailed information about setting the time and date on your watch be found in the operating instructions delivered with each timepiece.
Operating instructions
Setting the time
To set the time on your ILMAR watch, pull the crown until you hear two (2) gentle clicks. After this, turn the crown counterclockwise until the minute and hour hands indicate the correct time. Finally, push the crown back to its normal position.
Please note that the watch will stop running while the crown is in one of its outward positions.
Date display
To set the date on your ILMAR watch, pull the crown until you hear one (1) gentle click. After this, turn the crown counterclockwise until you reach the correct date. Finally, push the crown back to its normal position.
When pulling on the crown, avoid using any hard tools that might scratch either the watch case or the crown itself.
Changing the strap
In order to remove the strap from your ILMAR watch, use the dedicated spring bar tool provided with your timepiece. Insert the wedge tool between the case and the strap and gently turn the tool towards the center. This will loosen the spring bar and release the strap.
Insert a new strap by first placing one side of the spring bar into the grooves inside the case. Using the wedge tool, apply a small amount of pressure to the spring from the non-attached side of the strap and insert it into the grooves in the case.
Taking care of your ILMAR watch
Scratches and dents
All steel watches are prone to accumulate minor scratches over time. While most scratches can be polished away, we do not advice doing this through a third party repair business.
Treating Damascus steel requires specific tools and expertise, and doing this without proper technique can ruin the unique pattern in the steel. If you wish to have your timepiece serviced, please contact our customer service and we will arrange shipping for your watch to our watchmakers in Finland.
Maintain your leather strap
All ILMAR watch straps are hand-made out of sustainably procured Finnish leather. When delivered, your leather strap should be soft and silky to the touch. However, all natural leather has the tendency to dry over time.
To maintain the silky softness of your leather straps, they should be periodically treated with beeswax. The protective nature of beeswax will hold in the natural moisture of the leather, preventing it from drying and cracking.
Servicing an automatic movement
A self-winding automatic movement will last for generations if serviced routinely. This means cleaning and oiling the movement to help avoid abrasion between the mechanical parts.
In order to keep good care of the movement in your ILMAR watch, we recommend servicing your timepiece once a year. If your watch is in need of service, please contact our customer service and we will arrange shipping for your watch to our watchmakers in Finland.
